My friend Casey is starting a Humane Society in rural Louisiana. ( http://www.thedeltahumanesociety.com/ ) This is an extremely depressed area where there is no animal control, and no humane society or shelter for misplaced animals. Because of that, Casey is overwhelmed with animals needing safe harbour and rescue. About a month ago, she called on me to assist, and this little guy spoke to me. She pulled Ziggy from the shelter, popped him in the truck and drove north.
Ziggy is believed to have been part of a hoarding case. He obviously had never been groomed and was far younger than his appearance suggested. The first thing we did after his arrival was to bathe him and remove the matting that so seriously was compromising his happiness. Elizabeth (how LOVES grooming dogs) spent several hours helping Ziggy feel more like a real dog.
Off to the Dr Steve for neuter (and foster with Elizabeth and Lou), then back to the farm, just in time for Spring Break and our students.
The first day I asked the students if anyone wanted to act as foster for the week. Brittany volunteered and quickly took Ziggy under her wing. Little did I know that Brittany would also get to see her new foster dog go to his new home before the end of the week.

I received a call from one of our volunteers whose sister had decided to add a therapy dog to her pack. I had two dogs that might suit, but I felt Ziggy was the right dog. Coleen and Renee arrived early Friday morning, met the two prospective dogs, and of course, Ziggy went home.
The Zig-man has already had a lovely grooming and is a changed man. What a difference some caring people and a little TLC can make in the life of a little dog from Louisiana!
Ziggy was the sweetest little guy when he was getting groomed - He stood there for a couple hours, just letting the ladies clean him up - Cold, tired, and more than a bit stressed out (the DelMarVa peninsula is just a little bit far north, from his perspective!), he still displayed impecable good manners.
ReplyDeleteSo nice that this brave little guy has a home already!
