Adoption Update: Teddy

Dear Sarah,

Well, I was so comfortable and happy spending all that time in the country with you that I really did not want to leave. When it was time to go I hopped up onto the rear seat of my new owner's car but as soon as we started to move I jumped down onto the floor and buried my nose under the front seat. This startled Joel and Robin but they seemed to understand that I was comfortable and allowed me to stay there for the entire trip. I thought that they handled it very nicely.

At any rate we got to my new home and in we went. We headed for the kitchen at the back of the first floor where I was given water and a bowl of food. I drank a lot but ate not at all. There was a nice crate for me but I did not go in. Then Joel and I took a long walk around his neighborhood. We met other people with dogs and/or little children who were very glad to see me. When we headed home we walked along a street with lots of cars whizzing by. I was scared by these cars and was glad when we quickly turned onto a side street. All in all it was a very pleasant way to see some of my new neighborhood.

Oh, Joel has a wonderfully soft touch with a leash. When we got home I pretty much stayed in the kitchen. Robin walked me at night and then everybody went to sleep. They went upstairs and I remained in the kitchen on the floor. I was invited to sleep in the crate but liked the view from the outside in better than that from the inside out. I had the use of an old quilt and slept on the floor.

The next day we went for another long morning walk in a different direction. I am more comfortable with my neighborhood now and am walking more briskly. When we returned home I was not very hungry and skipped breakfast.

Joel went into his office and I began, slowly, to check out the first floor. Eventually, I curled up at his feet in his office where there are a couple of nice orientals. Once, he got up to go into the kitchen and I decided to hop onto a suede sofa to work on my rawhide chewy. Regretably, this was not well received. I'm sure I don't know why.

Later we all went up to the second floor and I had my first look at what's up there. By the way, Robin keeps offering my a tennis ball. Do you know why? Joel walked me in the late afternoon and I finally put it together that there was a reason for this other than to let me look longingly at all the squirrels. When we got back to the house I, feeling much better, had some food. Come bed time I still could not warm to that crate and slept on the kitchen floor once more.

Wednesday, Robin took me out for a short walk at about 7:00 and then Joel took me out again at 11:00. I heard him tell Robin that he is thinking of returning the crate since I am not using it. Joel gave me the last of my meds.

I'll write again soon.

Regards to all my brothers and sisters.

Teddy
