Adoption Update: Mati

Lynne and family,

I just wanted to express my thanks again for everything that each of you did to help bring a dog as sweet as Matie into our lives.

(she's lying down my my feet now as I type). It was only with your help that she spent quality time with a family and not just locked in a shelter cage somewhere. And a special thanks to Erica for showing me how easy Matie can be to train!

Matie had a busy day day today...3 walks, lots of ball catching, watching me wash my car (not too sure about that hose), testing me to see if it's okay to nibble on my Peace Lily...oh, and of course, her fav, gnawing on the raw bone you see in the photo.

And Lynne, you were right, she crates nicely at night, even waits quietly while I shower and dress to take her out in the morning.

We hope to meet you again for a reunion one day!

(second update)

I can't believe how fast our first month with Matie has gone!

She's quite a character and I wanted to take a minute to pass along a couple of Matie stories...

She had her first trip to Quiet Waters yesterday (its a good 1/2 hr from us, and the closest dog park).

Well, we got there around 2pm, on probably the busyest day...at least 20 small dogs...so Matie was a bit overwhelmed. She found a quiet gentleman on a bench and hid under under, ran around his legs, or jumped up on the bench whenever a dog would approach. Afer a while, she'd dare to move away, but the bench was always her 'base'...yup, just like when kids play tag...she was 'safe' whenever she was at the bench...nobody could tag her. So she'd run away and come back...she was a hoot. Finally she befriended another dog and they played 'catch-me-no-I'll-catch-you'.

also... got her the cutest toy at Sit-Stay online, don't know if you've seen it, its a bird house with 3 chicks in it. She has to pull the chicks out of the round bird hole...and of course they squeak! So now we have a game where I put my feet on the brick fireplace wall, so she has to jump over my knees, or crawl under them while going after whichever chick isn't in her mouth...oh, how she makes me laugh!

She also loves to stand on the first landing of our stairs - there's a large window, just Matie height to look out of and watch for any activity on the street.

She's smart too, learning lots of words...and she can get pretty obsessive on walks, still pulls a lot, so that's what we're working on next. She's really come out of her shell. More later!!
