Hi Sarah,
I wanted to drop you a line now that I'd consider Roy to be totally settled, to say thank you. I don't know if I can express how much of a constant, daily joy he is. Whether it's curling up with Ben and me on the couch for a movie, leaping to catch a Frisbee, or hovering behind me while I cook dinner, Roy's presence is always so sweet, gentle, and fun-loving. It's hard to imagine picking a better dog to join our little household.
I'm happy to add, also, that with time and exposure, his fear of strangers and new situations is dwindling. I find that any anxiety he shows upon meeting someone at our house the first time is gone by the second time he sees them. Even our forays to lacrosse games or Sam's have become much more low-key and predictable, with Roy seeming to understand that outside, startling stimuli won't hurt him.
I'm so glad, having successfully gone through the process, that MABCR has such discerning standards and rigorous checks- without them, would we have ended up with a creature so wonderfully suited to our lifestyle and interests? Roy truly is a member of the family and I feel so fortunate that we were able to be paired with such a fantastic animal. Every time I see him stare purposefully at the ball in my hand (like he can make it levitate just by concentrating!) or hear the leaves rustle behind me as I garden and know my 'shadow' is watching, I can't help but feel like the luckiest dog owner ever- something to keep in mind when he sows his doggy oats by, say, delicately snapping every Q-tip in the trash can he's upended.
Thanks so much for the good work that you do, and for the time, patience, and support you offer. You've helped to create a dog/owner relationship that is, I think, pretty darn awesome.
Thank you for Roy, and for everything.
Best always
Kate
PS I've attached a snowy picture of Roy!
