Reasons?

Rescue has been difficult lately. With the economy we have had more people request relinquishment than ever. The shelters are overloaded with dogs, an amazing number of them purebred. Since 1 October, I have turned away at least 61 dogs.

This morning I received a request for intake from an owner that was upsetting and began looking through other e-mails I had received from owners getting rid of their dogs. I collected the ‘worst’ of them here:

Don’t get me wrong. There are people out there who truly need our help. People are losing their homes, their jobs, their families and are simply not in a place where they can care for their dogs. I understand that and can certainly feel for them and their sadness at re-homing their dogs. It is the people who are simply not caring for their dogs, or are not taking the time with training or exercise that make me sad.

A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees. The greatest work that kindness does to others is that it makes them kind themselves.- Lawrence G. Lovasik
