We call her Stella now and she has been coming to school every day (except this week because we are downtown for a early childhood conference and she is sad to be home). I have never met a calmer dog with kids. They have buried her in the sand box, taken her for walks, checked out her teeth, petted and hugged her, and she accepts and enjoys it all with the same Buddah-like calm. Never a growl, jump or flinch.
When our other dog friends are about, she frisks around, running like lightening, leaping and smiling. She plays with herself in the big leaf pile, throwing the leaves up with her mouth. Sooo funny. She's two dogs in one.
She can't jump worth a damn. Can't get in the car or up onto the sandbox wall from 20 inches. She has a very weak back end but shows no weakness in her running and speed. When moving fast she uses both feet to propel herself and she can dodge and feint like a pro. So interesting. Haven't asked the vet.
Anyhow, I love her and she is quite devoted to me, too, though she escapes the yard when she thinks she may be home alone. Have a collar with my cell phone woven into it and her tags from MABCR.We are still working on the "come" which she does much of the time but not reliably. Looks like deafness, but I know it's selective hearing.
She is not really interested in food so I am looking for something that will knock her socks off. She sits and heels beautifully. Very interested in catching squirrels but loves the cats. Everyone can sleep on the bed now.
