Nye update

Sorry it has taken so long to get you a Nye update. There are so many dogs here to care for, I have been busy. I need another me :~))

Nye’s photo is enclosed. Thanks to Elisa for taking such a nice photo of the boy.

Nye saw the vet two weeks ago today. His neuter was successful and he has recovered from that without a hitch. While he was out, Dr Prier looked in his mouth and found that he does have teeth, but they are just nubs, not much to speak of. He was unable to determine whether the teeth had been filed down or if Nye is a rock chewer. Either way, it is a moot point, as his teeth are a direct result of the sad upbringing he has had. Dr Prier also found that even though Nye has been wormed appropriately, he had parasites, so we have wormed him again. Nye is now up to a reasonable weight and is ready for his new home.

The outpouring of caring and concern for Nye has been wonderful, and is appreciated. I have had several people ask if they could give Nye a home, and my hope is that if Nye does not land in your home, that you consider one of the other dogs we have here, as they are all equally in need. Nye will need a home that is right for him, and not all homes are able to provide what he needs in order to learn to be a ‘real dog’ and to flourish in his new life.

We believe Nye to be 6 or 7 years old. Due to his rough life, we feel he appears older than he is, and frankly, his teeth (or rather, lack of) are simply not helpful with determining his age. Nye is gentle and sweet, is willing to go anywhere with his person, and trusts me to not allow anything bad to happen to him. He will need humans in his life with the ability to be kind and gentle, yet tough and firm so that he can learn to live in the real world. Nye gets along with all of the dogs here, I have not had the opportunity to test him with cats, or children for that matter.

Nye will do best in a quiet, but active home that is willing to do some rehab. He does crate, and kennel nicely, walks nicely on leash and has nice manners, but will need housebreaking and house manners added to his repertoire. I do not see him as a tough case, merely as a dog who needs someone with understanding and a willingness to persevere. Nye really does not need any truly special care, he can eat kibble (this helps keep what teeth he has healthy), but his weight needs to be watched and he will need to be supplemented either with a cooked or canned food.

We are not looking for a foster, we are looking for permanent placement. If you think you have the soft place for Nye to fall, please email me privately and we can discuss. It would be wonderful to find Nye a home for the holiday.

Thanks again to everyone who has been moved by Nye’s story. It is because of kindness and concern like yours that we are able to help animals in need, like Nye.
