Sarah,
Over Christmas at my folk's house, I noticed that Star seemed to be very tired and her breath smelled very bad. I took her to the vet's upon returning and he drew blood. On Tuesday this week, he advised that she likely had leukemia and that there was no protocol that he could recommend in good conscience. Her white count was high enough that he thought she would not last but a few weeks. On Thursday after midnight her respirs seemed to shorten and she started to labor for breath, and worsened as morning came. I could not stand to see her struggle as she did and knew that it would only worsen. After consultation with the doc, I scheduled an appointment for that evening to put her down. I had called out at work to spend what little time i had with her. It has all happened so fast, my head is still spinning and my heart is broken. I can hardly believe that a mere week ago, I would not have guessed I would be grieving for her now.
I wish to thank you for giving her to us. You certainly picked a winner for us when you chose her for us. She was so loving, so sweet, so smart, my girl. Devotion might have been her middle name. I will never forget her, and what she gave me every day, all day. I try to focus on the good things I remember but at present, all I can feel is tremendous grief. Everywhere I turn, I see someplace she was or something she did. Thank you again for giving us this wonderful, loving, beautiful dog; she was perfect.
Thanks again, for giving us Star. She was one in a million.
