Update on the August Eight

The August Eight arrived at about 7.15 Saturday morning, well ahead of Hurricane Irene. Denise met the transport at 5 am (impressive!) and wasted no time getting here with her charges.

I popped all eight of them into a crate to wait until I decided for certain what to do with them. Somehow in my head eight four week old puppies took up less room!

After some deliberation, I decided the best tactic was to divide them into smaller groups for crating, then bring them all back together for play time. Honestly, this is not the best plan for pups this young, but separated and clean is better than all together and dirty (puppies poop a lot!!!)

By 11 am I had everyone medicated, fed and in their crates waiting for Irene, even Oscar!

Sorry, had to sneak in that picture of my little man.

Anyway, this is what fat, happy puppies look like after a 15 hour van ride, a vehicle change, and other 2.5 hour car ride, then two crate changes!

That is the update from Saturday...I hope you enjoyed. I must say, I was a wee bit freaked out by the prospect of having eight puppies in a hurricane, but it turned out ok. I am bedding on clean towels (Thank you for those towel donations) rather than newspapers, so the smell is actually negligible and very tolerable.

We have received quite a few donations for the pups. We thank you! Your donations are so very important. We are very happy for what we have received, and of course, we will have ongoing care, so additional donations are very welcomed!

I will be posting another update shortly (hint: we went outside today!!) in the meantime, I hope you enjoyed!

I am so thankful you have the August 8. I was there the day their moma was hit and worked with the owner to bottle feed them. So thankful they are all living and so hopeful homes will be found for all 8!!
