Adoption Update: Alpie

Hi Sarah

Hi there!  How are you doing?  We are all doing well, and I wanted to write to give you an update on our wonderful boy dog Alpie.

Initially , I was concerned that the cats and Alpie might have some difficulties, but right now, as I'm sitting here  writing this. Alpie is under the desk while my oldest cat is nuzzling and rubbing against him, sticking her purring face in his ears.  (He doesn't seem to know quite what to think about this- but she's never been a species snob); while the other cat- always the nervous one, is laying in her basket on the other side of my chair.

Alpie's a great dog.  He's definitely still a teenager and does try to get away with a few things- he knows all about beds and couches and pillows and chairs and all that comfortable stuff , and he's pretty convinced that at some point I'm going to forget that I really don't want him on the furniture with us.  Or even without us.  We're all walking about 4-5 miles in the mornings, then going out to play ball before breakfast.  When he starts to get tired he jumps up into the flower garden and peeks out from behind the bushes-his pretty white ears give him away every time!

We've been taking him everywhere we can with us to expose him to as many things as we can , and he's gaining confidence, though he still wants to bark at strangers it doesn't have to be everyone anymore.  He's comfortable on the boat and readily learned the trick of up the stairs and onto the deck.  He's walked around the marina, met other dogs and people, learned that boats are big squeaky things, and is not bothered by engine noises (some very loud) of our boat or any others.  At the restaurant, he's good after a few moments, he wants to bark or chuff a little bit, and seems mostly uncomfortable when people stare at him, which we ask them not to do ("Please ignore the dog-thanks")  But as a guy sitting at the next table at the restaurant we've taken him to said-"He doesn't know how pretty he is", and folks do want to pet him.

Turns out he's good with kids.  He was surrounded and petted by a group of kids at a Petsmart store last week, and loved it.  Graham has taken him into his work twice now, where everyone in the office is in love with him, and he's met all the other dogs (and people)  on staff.  Today I'm taking him to the vet for his wellness check and tomorrow he's going in to work with Graham.

Back from the vet, turns out he has some yeast in his ears and they've given me some stuff for his skin to make him less itchy.  It has a little bit of prednisone in it which should help right away.  He doesn't have any fleas and is very well generally.  There was a small boy at the vet's office and Alpie was delighted to see him!  he really is a sweet, happy guy.  We're so happy to have him.

Here's a picture of him in the navigators chair and some others too.  Will write back soon!
