Adoption Update: Sophie!

I want to send you a note to thank you for your visit to my house as part of the adoption process and help identifying an border collie for me. You most likely already know, that I adopted a 9 mo old puppy, Sophie (formerly Sobe), from MABCR last Saturday. Although Sophie has only been with me for six days, you, Barbara and Sarah did an excellent job picking just the right dog for me. She has been a great addition.

I have been amazed with how quickly she picks up training. During our first two days of leashed walked, we battled. After applying of few tricks you and others shared, she is now a fantastic leash walker with only occasional reminders. I have only had to tell her once or twice about furniture rules and other out-of-bound areas. She has already acknowledged our routine of eating, walking, who walks in the house first, and she has even picked her places to do her business.

I have to tell you my most surprising story. On Tuesday, I started her at doggie day care twice a week to ensure she socializes well with dogs. Ten hours later when I returned to pick her up, I wondered how I was going to catch and leash her to take her home. After only three days, there was no way she would recognize me or even know her own name. Despite have 20 other dogs around her, the minute I walked into the care center, she made a beeline for me and clearly acknowledged her name. That was a fantastic surprise. Plus the fact she walked into the house, went straight to her kennel, and fell asleep was my second great surprise.

Again, thank you for the tips and perspective you shared with me and helping to ensure that I was offered a dog that fit my needs and life. She has already won over a number of my family and friends and, I can assure you, will have a good life in my care.

Please find attached a photo of Sophie with my niece taken earlier this week.  Thanks to her and a number of neighbors and friends, Sophie gets lots of attention and I get a break every now and then!
