Adoption Update: Alyce!

Hi Sarah,

We are working hard on Alyce's fear issues and she is making progress but still having a hard time with novel things and new environments. I'm enjoying the project though.  Jill on the other hand would like her to go away or grow up:))  The pup has wrecked several of her favorite toys (i.e.footie man doesn't have any feet) but she is getting better about backing off when Jill lets her know she's had enough nonsense.
She's also doing well at her manners class.

I spent a couple weeks trying to get to the bottom of the soft stool mystery since the vet couldn't find any parasites, giardia, etc.  Seems to be a food sensitivity.  We put her on a limited ingredient diet
(fish and sweet potato) since I was feeding a chicken based food and training treats, like magic she has normal stools.  My dog, Rolex, had a sensitivity to chicken it would be too weird if I got another one.

I just love watching her run in the woods.  She is sooo fast and agile.  The other really funny thing is that she and my young cat Hobbes are best buds.  He's still a big kitten and my older cat hates his rough housing.  Jill hates Alyce's rough housing so a perfect match was born.

They wrestle and chew on each other till they are worn out then Alyce licks his head till he looks like a drowned rat.  You can see what passes for entertainment in my house.

Thanks,
Mary

Adoption Update: Alyce (or ??)

Mary  was at the Keystone USDAA trial today with Jill and Alyce. Alyce was getting a little socialization, and she decided that Al was okay after a significant liverwurst experience. She looks great and Jill is doing her part to help Alyce along.

It was so great to see a success story. I predict we will see some great things from these two MABCR alumni, whether in agility, tracking or some other dog sport.

Adoption Update: Alyce (or ??)

Hi Sarah,

Sorry to not have checked in before this.  We've been very busy socializing.  She was alarm barking at everyone she saw so I've walked her on a bike/walking path the past couple days then today the regional cross country races were at the park across the street so there were hundreds of kids running.  She started out barking at a few people and Jill glared at her as if the say "shut up you little fool, the humans are everywhere get over it."  And lo and behold she is already 1000% times better.  I'm sure it will be awhile before all the new stuff in her world is normal to her but she making great progress.

She also already learned that the crate door doesn't open and the leash doesn't go on till she sits and she's really good at it.  Smart dog!!

She chews with more vigor  than any BC I've had.  I mean like a pitbull:)  She tore up a red kong that I stuffed for her.  I guess I'll have to buy her the "big dog"  black ones or maybe stuff truck tires.

Do you have any recommendations?

Adoption Update: Alyce!

Alyce went home this morning with her new mum, and packmate, Jill. Rumor has it her name will be changing, but she will have a job and lots of challenges!
