Adoption Update: Tuck!

Dear Sarah,

It has been since the fall of 2008 that we adopted Tuck from MABCR, and we definitely owe you an update.  Tuck has been a wonderful boy.  He is a very energetic well adjusted boy around the house.  He loves to play ball, but he also spends a great deal of focus monitoring our cats.  They love to tease him.  He really enjoys romping with his other dog buddies, a Great Pyrenees and an Aussie mix.  Even though he is the smallest, he keeps the other dogs in line.   He is a true Border Collie.

Tuck’s main calling in life has been dog agility.  He took to it immediately and his training was relatively simple.  He learned most of the skills just by watching other dogs in class, then after one of two tries, he had it.  He is competing within an organization called CPE, and he progressed rapidly through all their levels of performance winning all the lower level titles.  Within a couple years Tuck was running in their Champion Level, and in a very short time he earned his Champion Extraordinaire Title.  This is CPE’s highest title.  He is amazing in the ring and can work very precisely at a great distance from me, which is important due to my limited speed.  He is always focused on “getting it right”, and he generally does!   Tuck’s best quality is still his behavior outside the ring, where he is a nice friendly loving dog.

Tuck was just a remarkable match for us.  In fact, you specially selected him for us, and it was a brilliant decision.  He is a smooth coat, and in his case he is especially smooooth with not a hair out of line.  This was a bit different in the beginning, but we really love it.  We still get questions from many people, “what kind of dog is that,” and we are happy to explain the wonders of smooth coat Border Collies.  Regardless of the coat, he is all Border, but he enjoys wearing a warm sweater to go out in the winter.  Please do not tell that to the other Border Collies!

See a couple photos attached, one with Tuck competing (he can levitate), and one with him receiving his Champion Extraordinaire title.   We are so proud of him and we love him very much.
We sent you a donation in the mail, so please watch for it.  Best wishes for the new year, and please carry on with all the great work you do for Borders.  Maybe we will need to come to you again someday for another wonderful Border Collie, so keep the light on.

Best Regards,

Brian and Jeanette

Adoption Update: Tuck

Dear Sarah,

It has been nearly 2 years since we got this note below (the approval letter) from you and we adopted Tuck, originally known as Tux.

We just want to let you know how great our experience with Tuck has been !! You matched us with the perfect dog.   As you said, "he is an honest dog," and that has surely been correct.  There is nothing more we could want from such a great dog.  He is a buddy and wonderful family memeber for all of us, including our Aussie mix and the 3 cats.

On the Agility side, he has been BRILLIANT.  A fast and eager learner and a great competitor.
He loves it as much as we do.  We expect that before the end of this year he will get his "CATCH" which is the Champion Agility title within CPE.  He accomplished this very fast, mostly because he qualifies on nearly every run.  We attached a photo of him clearing a 20 inch double, but you can see he clears his required jump height by a mile. The boy is a real flyer.  Evidently smooth coats are very aerodynamic !

But as I said, it is not only about the agility.  He is an all around wonderful boy! Thanks for picking him for us.  Maybe some time in the future we will again contact you for another adoption, although Tuck may be impossible to match !

If you come across another "Tuck-in-the-making" who needs a good home, feel free to contact us.

Hope all is well with you.
Sincerely,
Brian and Jeanette

Adoption Update: Tux, now Tuck!

Dear Sarah,

We want to give you an update on Tux. First of all, “Tux” has evolved into “Tuck.” That is just easier to say when training. He likes it just fine. He is a fantastic little guy. He is now up to 33 pounds and all muscle. He is almost finished with basic obedience classes and is doing very well. He always wants to please. He has been observing at Oreo’s agility class, and is already copying the moves. He starts his beginner’s agility class after New Years, but already does some basics in the backyard. He looks like a natural!
Tuck and Oreo have become good buddies and play together much of the time. He is also a perfect gentleman with the 2 cats. They all have adjusted very quickly. We want to thank you again for matching us with our Tuck. We love him very much!
Thanks again and have a great Thanksgiving,
Jeanette and Brian
