Adoption Update: Tuli

It's now a month that Tuli is in our life and what a joy. We are on a whole new level of understanding each other. She wants nothing more than to please us, and we are having a blast training her new things. She now brings the ball back to us! Her r

ecall is getting better every day. She got out of my niece's yard this week, she came immediately back when called! That makes me very happy. We are all getting a little more confident in each others space. Not that our guard is down, because she's one smart dog and she'll want to take advantage if you let her. Just like our Edie a Jack Russell, you can't leave her to her own devices for a moment.

I thank you Sarah for teaching me that crate training is a really good thing! We try to give her at least an hour of crate per day. We found that if she hasn't been in it for a couple of days, she gets way more demanding of our attention. She's comfortable in the crate but I have to carry her over to it to put her in. Although she jumps right in the crate in "her" car as she knows that she loves every place we've taken her!

Tuli is the most outspoken dog I

have ever met. Even more than Taj (mom's poodle). I'm not saying barking, I mean taking. We call her a little monkey. Not that barking isn't in the picture. It gets very windy here on the cape and the house noise from it makes her jumpy as she thinks it's someone outside. Could also be from the outside smells flying around. I have to be the mom dog to calm her. She's getting better at this also.

Our daily routine has become 2nd nature now and Tuli adapts very well to any changes that occur. She's comfortable and we think she knows she is home.

Adoption Update: Tuli

Two weeks later, into our third week in life with Tuli.

Where do I begin? She is such a joy. She makes us laugh all the time. She's high energy with intelligence that can make your head spin, but we still manage to tire her out quite often (us too!). She is really a mixed breed as she is sometimes pure Terrier and sometimes Border Collie. She's our little yin-yang doggie.

Our day begins at sunrise when Tuli does her "Mole Dance" on our 3 mile walk in the fields and woods. Sticking her face deep in each hole she finds and jumping for joy at every one. She also enjoys visiting the chickens and goats on the way. Back home after breakfast it's yard patrol and ball playing. She's getting better at bringing back the ball but she also likes to play hide the ball too! She naps next to me in my office while I do paper work. (I work mostly at home). Then on our lunch break it's to the beach or the dog park where she out runs them all. Whether we're at work or at play she loves doing it with us. She likes visiting friends homes and is very well behaved and is always welcomed back. She also enjoys our evening walk in the neighborhood meeting and smelling all the other neighbor dogs.

She's a great watch dog, and only barks while ball playing and running with other dogs. She does her business outside and her schedule is right on! Sarah, I can tell you that Bob is an easy read now as he bought us (Tuli and me) a new vehicle so we're more comfortable!She is keeping us fit and happy. She's family now, with an official visit to Grandma's house last Sunday. They both fell for each other.

Adoption Update: Tuli!

Hello Sarah,

It's now one week after adopting our Tuli. It's Sunday afternoon with a gentle but soaking rain and we all just got back from our noon day walk, so we're toweled off (a game for Tuli) and happily lounging. 

Tuli is definitely one spunky dog! It's fun to watch her discovering her new environment with all the new smells and neighborhood creatures. No matter what we're doing where we're are going she's a girl who always wants to have fun! She walks very well on a leash and is good with other people and pets. My friends all over the Cape really took to her including her new veterinarian.

She so smart so she's pretty easy to train. Although when a squirrel is close at hand . . . she wants to chase them and we're working on that! 

Thanks again Sarah, Elizabeth and Lou, Maryellen, Kathleen and Casey and all at MABCR. We all could not be happier!

Adoption Update: Tuli Goes Home!

Editors note: Tuli has been with me nearly a year. That does not happen often, but when it does, it is always a special dog that needs the perfect home. Tuli was never a favorite of anyone but me, I adore her spunk, charm, and super-badness. Tuli patiently waited for the perfect home. Chris and Bob adore her as well!

Here's Tuli's update for your blog.

            It's now over 24 hours since we got Tuli home. She's was quiet and good on the way home, although she might have gotten a little sea sick on the ferry as there was a little bit of spittle in her crate. 

            So far there's is no bad barking. She started a low bark while looking out the windows, but became silent when she was told not to. No accidents either. Did her business on our early morning walk in the cornfields. She's a scavenger though, got to watch out what she finds out there! Yucky to us but yummy to her! 

          

  We couldn't find a crate yesterday but she slept very well in her own bed next to ours. We took her out shopping for it today where she was very popular at the local pet store. I put her in the new crate and I went to my office to work for a little bit, I'm still there writing this update and she's still being very good. She's so smart, she's already got our routine down. You show her something once and she's got it!

            We are so happy and she seems to be too! Thanks to all in helping this adoption happen. Our Tuli girl is home!
