Hi Angie:
I wanted to give you another Gabby update. (Her name is still Gabby for lack of a better choice on our part – I think it is going to stick).
I wanted to give you another Gabby update. (Her name is still Gabby for lack of a better choice on our part – I think it is going to stick).
As we speak she is having a fit in her crate, but all in all she is adapting to everything just fine. I have been crating her for a couple of hours in the morning and in the afternoon so that she can get used to it when I have to go to work and run errands. She is also doing nicely at night – we are keeping her on your schedule of between 9 and 10 bed time and between 5 and 6 wake up. There was only one bad night she was up three times.
We have also been feeding her in the crate and leaving her in there while we eat. I think she is getting more comfortable because she is now venturing out of the kitchen. Our cats have come out finally too and they have had some non-threatening encounters. Last night our cat Rosie came up and sniffed Gabby while she was taking a cat nap under the kitchen table. Our other cat Alvin, however, tried the old growl and hiss at one point, but Gabby did not seemed phased.
She has walked up to the school and she is the main attraction. Yesterday it was so cute because Gabby was wrestling with another dog at the school and the kids all formed a circle around the dogs and were cheering them on – it was pretty cute.
Gabby also continues to have a lot of fun with our neighbor’s dog, Rocco. I think they could wrestle for hours!! She has also started a nice big hole in the garden and in the yard, but that is O.K. with me – just no digging in the house. Her level of chewing has seemed to increase. I don’t know if you have any other suggestions of things she can chew on.
I took her and my daughter to my preschool art room today because I had to do a few things in the room and I gave Gabby a paper plate and she shredded it completely. It didn’t make such a mess and I thought it would keep her busy. She really is a good dog and just goes with the flow. My husband also took her to our son’s football practice and she liked that too.
I have taken a few pictures, but I still need to download them onto the computer. I think that is all the notable stuff for now – oh and Gabby is going to the vet next week for a check up and I have a call in to Nikki to find out the obedience class she recommends. Gabby is going very well with the command “Gabby Come”. She especially listens when I say it. It is also interesting she follows me everywhere I go.
We love having her – hope you and your dogs are well. Look forward to hearing from you and any grains of wisdom you may have to share.
Heather
